Starling $900 After learning how trees in a forest will communicate with one another through their roots, I’ve become fascinated by what these old giants might be saying to one another. We are merely a blip on their timeline. I wonder if they even bother to discuss our presence at all. Gouache and ink on wood. Approx. 25 3/4” x 17 3/4”.

O Negative (framed) $2500 When I was a kid, ten or eleven, I saw a group of flying foxes at an exhibit at a local museum. To me, they looked like dogs with wings. I’ve been gaga about bats since. Thirteen bat species have been recorded in my state of Indiana. We usually only see the small brown bat in the summer months. O Negative is an ode to this magnificent animal, not so much to any one species, but to all bats, including the bats of folklore, of old Romanian myth, and of Abraham Stoker. This piece is the beginning of a change in my work, as I move away from painting on wood, to carving birch panels in the traditional style of woodblock printing. You will find the prints from this block in the ‘PRINTS’ section of the website, but this piece is the woodblock itself, inked and beautifully framed at 26”x26” I do not typically fall in love with my own art. Still, I will miss having this piece in the house when it is gone.
