What is a woodblock print?
A woodblock print is one of the earliest forms of relief printing. It is made by carving the image into a block of wood, inking the wood, and then pressing paper to the wood.
What is a Limited edition print?
Woodblock prints (at least mine) are almost always limited edition prints; meaning there is only a limited number of individual prints pressed from the block. (I tend to do editions of 20 or less.) When you buy a limited edition woodblock print, a fraction will be written below the print in the margin opposite the signature. This fraction represents the print number in the edition and the total number of the edition. For example, if you bought the first print made in an edition of twenty, you would see the fraction 1/20. Once the edition is sold out, it becomes unavailable. No more prints can be made of the edition. Because of this, limited edition prints increase in value over time.
What is a giclee PRINT?
A giclee print is made by scanning or photographing an original artwork and then making a print from the captured image (just like when you go to an art museum gift shop and buy van Gogh's Starry Starry Night, you are not purchasing the actual painting, but a reproduction). For the purposes of my art, giclee prints are made when a woodblock print edition is sold out. No, the giclee is not the original woodblock print, but it's the next best thing. My giclee prints are printed on fine art watercolor paper and are hand signed. They look fantastic.
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY ORDER?
I do my best to ship next day. Some woodblock prints are printed as they are ordered, so if there is to be some prep time, I will let you know the timeline. I will be in constant contact with you up until it ships.
CAN I SHIP TO CANADA/INTERNATIONAL/APO/FPO ADDRESSES?
Yes. Additional charges may apply. Items will be shipped USPS Priority International or FedEx, per request.
